When we talk of addiction substance or alcohol is often the focus. Addiction can come in many forms – shopping, gambling, eating, negative thought patterns. Y12SR is open to anyone. No yoga experience required!

“Yoga of 12-Step Recovery offers a rich and powerful framework for addiction recovery and relapse prevention.
Y12SR “connects the dots” between the ancient wisdom of yoga, the practical tools of 12-step programs, and the latest research on trauma healing and neurobiology. As part of a holistic recovery program, it works in tandem with traditional treatment to address the physical, mental and spiritual disease of addiction.

The program serves people recovering from all manifestations of addiction, from behavioral addictions to substance abuse – creating a safe place on the mat where trauma can be released. It also supports those who are impacted by a loved one’s addiction. Weekly meetings led by certified Y12SR leaders are available in community settings across the United States. Y12SR is also offered as an adjunctive therapy in a growing number of addiction recovery treatment centers.

What is Y12SR?
Modeled from the meetings of 12-step addiction recovery programs, Y12SR combines the structure of a 12-step meeting with the practices and philosophies of yoga. The program was created by Nikki Myers in 2003 and is now offered throughout the country and internationally.Y12SR is a relapse prevention program designed to support and offer healing to addicts and persons affected by addiction. Y12SR meetings are open to the community and all are welcome to attend—one does not need to currently be attending a 12-step program or practice yoga to participate.

What is Y12SR NOT?
Y12SR is not a 12-step program, nor does it replace 12-step meetings or any addiction recovery program.

What can participants expect?
Each meeting includes a group-sharing circle preceded or followed by an intentional, themed yoga class. This combination of yoga with the 12-step model empowers us to approach the physical, mental, and spiritual challenges of addiction. Each student is welcome to speak and share during the sharing circle, but nobody is required or pressured to do so. The facilitator may incorporate meditation or breathing exercises, all of which will be guided with thoughtful instruction. The yoga practice is designed for all levels. Please wear comfortable clothes, and arrive with an open heart and open mind.”

Bee Happy Wellness Center - Yoga, myofascial release treatment, massage, mindfullness, meditation, halotherapy, salt room, salt room yoga, halotherapy yoga, salt therapy, reiki, Aerial yoga, Juice bar, coffeeHi I’m Shelly, I’m a certified yoga teacher & Y12SR leader. I am not a guru or the boss. Yoga does not have hierarchy it is about people coming together to learn from each other on their journey. Everything we do in Y12SR is a suggestion for you to explore.
Yoga philosophy is ancient, over 5000 years old. It has taken many translations & can be intimidating to start. It is important to remember that though the philosophy is ancient most of the poses were developed in the last 100 years. Yoga is not about the poses. Yoga literally means union. Union of body & mind, body & breath, to connect with your true self, with your higher power, or simply Union of all of our parts of ourselves including the parts of us that may still generate emotions of shame. The purpose of practicing yoga can be different for each individual & can change from day to day. It is important to remember the poses are simply one of the tools we use to explore and learn. We move and breath to focus on reconnecting with our physical body. This is just another tool we use to bring us into the present moment. Much of human suffering can be linked to a disconnection to present moment.
It is also important to remember that Y12SR is just a tool, it is not a replacement for traditional therapies or 12 step programs, however it is most effective when used together with other tools you are finding useful in your journey.
